Update on the old yeller dog

from this morning's Herald
Family can’t wait to have dog back

Sometimes old yeller dogs do come back home.
"I can’t believe it. I just can’t believe we’re getting him back," Samantha Mccullough sobbed when she was told Sunday her family dog will be returned.
"This is the greatest news I’ve heard in . . . forever."
Ms. Mccullough, her boyfriend John Lyons and their two sons will be waiting for SPCA volunteers to return their five-year-old mixed Labrador on Tuesday.
The dog, named Chykato, went missing from their home in Addington Forks, Antigonish County, just before Christmas and family members say they did everything to track him down.
Someone found the dog and SPCA volunteers kept him for 72 hours, as is procedure. After three days, he was taken to a veterinarian, neutered and put up for adoption.
Ms. Mccullough was told she had no recourse: her dog was adopted and there wasn’t a thing she could do about it.
Although Kristin Williams, executive director of the provincial SPCA, initially said the dog was living with its new family, it was in a foster home.
On Sunday, Ms. Williams said the family that was going to adopt the dog opted to have him sent back to the owners.
"We’re very pleased with the way things turned out and, of course, we’ll be waiving any fees for boarding or medical ex-penses," said Ms. Williams.
Meanwhile, Andrea Redmond has been fostering the 27-kilogram dog for the past week.
After reading
The Sunday Herald, she learned about the dog’s family wanting him back.
"I really felt badly for this family and I knew things could work out if we just tried," said Ms. Redmond.
"I’m really very pleased the SPCA paused and re-evaluated the situation. This is a good ending."
Ms. Mccullough said she is grateful for the care Ms. Redmond gave to Chykato and her family can’t wait until their dog returns.
"We got him a big bag of treats for Christmas and we can’t wait till he’s here to enjoy them."

Lets just hope the family is overjoyed enough to do more than get their old yeller dog a big bag of treats .... one can only hope that his days of being left tied out while his people go away overnight in the winter will be over.
Sadly it is not against the law in this province to do that.
