I'd be a rich old gal if I had a nickle for every time I have heard someone say they would love to be able to adopt but that there are never any small dogs available for adoption!
Actually, there are usually at least a few to pick from around the province! Small dogs are just as apt to become orphaned when their caregivers pass away .... more so perhaps because they are often the first pet of choice for older folks. Nor does size have any effect on the odds of being lost in one of life's shuffles that humans can experience.
To make matters worse, small dogs can be readily had at the click of a mouse on Kijiji ... where those peddling the 'littles' are more interested in the monetary return than in ensuring the purchaser actually understands that small dogs are pets .. not fashion accessories ... and need all the same bits that their bigger cousins do.
Worst of all of course is that they are very vulnerable to being misused and abused for breeding ... and it is the lucky ones indeed that get a second chance through animal rescue.
That being said ... this morning there are 25 adorable adoptable little dogs on my site .... each and every one of them just a sweet Happy Tail in Waiting!
